Sawyer's Race for Research is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization founded by the Burch family after their son, Sawyer, was diagnosed with Trifunctional Protein Deficiency (TFP)—an ultra-rare, progressive genetic disorder with no cure. Our mission is simple: accelerate research, improve treatments, and help find a cure for TFP. Every dollar raised supports groundbreaking research led by Dr. Jerry Vockley and his team at UPMC Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh, one of the world's leading experts in fatty acid oxidation disorders. Since our founding, our community has raised more than $500,000 for TFP research, helping move promising therapies from the laboratory toward clinical trials and giving families like ours hope for the future.
